Shortcut Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes

There’s just nothing like a warm cinnamon sugar donut with some nice spiced cider on a fall afternoon. Or morning. Or night. Donuts are really the best treat when you stop to think about it. I don’t think I ever met one I didn’t like. I like this one especially because of how easy it is to make.

The word shortcut is in the title for a reason. These are ridiculously easy and the hardest part is waiting for the dough to rise. The shortcut lies in using frozen yeast dinner rolls as your base donut dough. It’s a delicious mix between a donut and an elephant ear when it fries, and it cuts down your prep time significantly!

This is a semi homemade, but your family or guests won’t be able to tell the difference. You will have them thinking you are the king or queen of donuts. Don’t worry your secret will be safe with me.

Cinnamon sugar donut holes, with a twist.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place frozen dinner rolls in a lightly greased pan, and allow to thaw and come to room temperature. Lightly cover the rolls with a tea towel and sit in a warm place. This will help assist the rolls in rising.
  2. Once the rolls have tripled in size, cut each roll into 4 pieces. Totalling 32 mini rolls.
  3. Roll each piece into a ball.
  4. Mix together cinnamon and sugar in a medium sized bowl.
  5. Heat oil to 350 degrees.
  6. Place 5 rolls at a time, very carefully into the oil. Keep the rolls moving constantly to prevent burning and to help them brown evenly.
  7. Carefully remove donuts from oil, I use a spider strainer linked here for this process.
  8. Immediately add donuts to cinnamon sugar mixture and coat evenly.
  9. Serve hot, and enjoy!
